Free Seeds

I haven't posted for a while but now it is starting to get sunnier I am begining to think more about my garden. After a long, cold winter I can't wait to go outside in the sunshine and start growing my own vegetables again. Over winter I have been putting my windowsill to use for sprouting seeds and growing small amounts of herbs. I also had a good supply of pumpkins and broccoli through most of the winter. Nothing is as good though as picking fresh ingredients on a summer's day and eating them fresh within minutes.

Like many people, I don't have much spare money to spend on my garden. Growing your own fruit and vegetables should be about saving money not spending it. When you are a beginner to gardening it is very easy to be convinced that you need to buy lots of expensive equipment, tools and many other things to be successful. That is not true. With time and knowledge you will find that growing your own can save you considerable amount of money.

This brings me on to free seeds. Here in the UK at the moment we are all being encouraged to start growing our own fruit and vegetables. If you keep your eyes open there are many oppurtunities to pick up free seeds. Last year The National trusty gave out 170 million free seeds at their properties throughout the UK. I was lucky enough to get two packets of rocket and a packet of pumpkin seeds. This year my boyfriend found that the BBC is giving away packs of 5 types of seeds. If you fill in an online form you will receive mixed salad, courgette, french bean, carrot and basil. They are also including a booklet on how to grow them. As a raw foodist all of these seeds will be fantastic as they are mostly staples of my diet already. If you want to join in too here is the link;

There is also a lot of great information on how to grow these seeds as well. Enjoy!
